Software Development Engineer
Be a part of an agile development team which creates different projects with the
latest technologies. You’ll also have to impart courses and help our customers at
their premises occasionally. We, at Plain Concepts, are a 4X4; we have a really
multidisciplinary team. I can guarantee you that you won’t be stranded at a customer
office without knowing who are your colleagues. The rest is up to you, your aptitudes
and likes.
What knowledge do we especially value?
Every Plain Concepts developer can seamlessly work with the main .NET Framework
technologies: ASP.NET, MVC, EF, WF, WCF, Silverlight, WPF, TFS, Azure, Blend...
We expect you to be over the average in one or more of those technologies. You should
also be able to teach others and transmit your knowledge to them. We don’t expect
you to JUST write code: your code MUST be excellent, participating in every design
decision and creating a coherent architecture. You should be able to help solve
our customers’ problems; although it won’t be your main task, you might need to
help in consulting projects with your preferred technologies.
All Microsoft certifications are welcome, but not indispensable. For this position
we will value especially your Silverlight and Blend capabilities.
So you speak English perfectly? Cool! That way you’ll collaborate with our US offices.
Don’t worry if you don’t, you only need to have C# as your mother tongue and understand
technical documentation.
Which aptitudes do we value the most?
You must be a team player, constructively criticizing your colleagues’ work while
being open to receiving critics about yours.
You must have a constant interest for learning, and doing so quickly!
You must be passionate about all software development activities.
You must be a good communicator. Having a blog is a plus
Collaborating with the .NET community is preferred: Being part of a user club, speaking
at events about .NET, writing on MSDN forums and helping others…
We’d like you to prefer reading “Silverlight in Depth” rather than “The Pillars
of the Earth.”
How will the selection process be?
Hard. You’ll be interviewed by everyone from the team you’d work at. They all can
decide on your selection.
It is also possible that we’ll like to see the code you write and maybe test some
of it.
You can surprise us with an application that you might have developed in your free
time for your “geek” pleasure (a Nokia scheduler app developed in Mono, your sister’s
flower shop website, the backlog of your wedding preparation, the TFS report that
details who is late for your daily ”scrum”, an XNA “Pong”…).
Will I have to travel?
Occasionally. A “Software Development Engineer” shouldn’t be preparing the luggage
every day, but traveling shouldn’t be much of a bother.
How much money will I make?
As much as you can justify for, our limits are blurry on either side. This, whenever
reasonable, won’t be a problem. If you are a real master, we’ll value it. We want
the best in our team.
And salary aside?
You’ll be able to get training, going to Microsoft events , assist to courses…
How will my schedule be?
Whatever works for you: most of us work from eight-ish through six-ish. We have
lunch at around 1:30pm and we go home at 3:00pm on Friday. Nobody will ask you to
be attached to your chair for hours; we want results, meeting commitments, and satisfying
our customers.
Send us your CV
We have a really competitive benefits and compensation package, and you get to share
your time with other bright developers and designers whom you can learn from. All
of our locations create state-of-the-art projects, and the atmosphere is incomparable.
