SEAI: Strengthening Digital Foundations to Support Future Growth

    Background

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) plays a key role in driving Ireland’s transition to sustainable energy. As the organisation expanded and demand for digital services increased, SEAI recognised the need to modernise its core systems and processes to remain agile, resilient and responsive.

SEAI operates a diverse ecosystem of platforms — from internal business systems to public-facing digital services — all essential in supporting national energy programmes and engaging the public.

To reinforce resilience and support future growth across this digital landscape, SEAI partnered with Plain Concepts to assess the structure, scalability and long-term sustainability of its core technology systems and development practices. With rising pressure on digital services, SEAI sought an expert perspective to ensure its platforms could sustain performance and align with modern best practices.

The engagement included multiple structured workshops with SEAI’s technical and business teams, enabling a clear understanding of how existing systems operate and where improvements could be made. Together with Auxilion, Plain Concepts delivered a set of practical recommendations to strengthen system resilience, enhance development practices and support long-term scalability. These insights now serve as a foundation for SEAI’s internal planning and digital decision-making.

    The Challenge

SEAI needed an independent assessment to gauge the effectiveness, structure and future readiness of its digital systems. As demand for services continued to grow, the organisation wanted to ensure its platforms were scalable, robust and aligned with long-term strategic goals.

The review aimed to help SEAI:

    • Assess the current health and structure of critical platforms
    • Identify potential risks or technical limitations
    • Improve development and delivery practices
    • Support future growth and strengthen digital resilience

The assessment was designed to inform internal planning and provide actionable recommendations for future improvements. A series of structured workshops with SEAI stakeholders enabled a comprehensive understanding of both current needs and future priorities.

SEAI’s Journey to Stronger, Future-Ready Digital Platforms

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) plays a central role in driving Ireland’s sustainable energy transformation. As the organisation expanded and demand for digital services increased, SEAI recognised the need to modernise its core systems and processes to remain agile, resilient and responsive in a fast-evolving sector.

SEAI manages a diverse set of platforms, ranging from internal business systems to public-facing digital services that support national energy programmes and public engagement. To ensure these systems could continue to support future growth, SEAI engaged Plain Concepts and Auxilion to assess the overall structure, scalability and resilience of its key technology platforms and development practices, and to identify opportunities to strengthen its digital foundations.

Through a series of structured workshops with stakeholders from across the organisation, Plain Concepts and Auxilion worked with SEAI’s technical and business teams to build a clear picture of how core systems were designed, built and operated. The engagement focused on architecture quality, scalability and future readiness, maintainability, and the effectiveness of current development and delivery practices.

The outcome was a high-level, independent review that delivered practical recommendations to enhance system resilience, improve development workflows and support sustainable growth. These insights now provide SEAI with a solid foundation for internal decision-making, helping to guide future investments, prioritise improvements and shape its long-term digital strategy.

“Plain Concepts and Auxilion helped SEAI gain independent insight into its digital systems, providing a clear path to more scalable, resilient and future-ready platforms.”
