Aurax & Plain Concepts: Assistive Technology and Inclusion with MouthX
Aurax is a pioneering assistive technology company seeking to restore autonomy to people with severely reduced mobility in their upper limbs. Its mission is to create devices that do not force the user to adapt to the technology, but rather make the technology adapt to the user’s anatomy and needs.
The main challenge was to develop MouthX, an intraoral device capable of translating tongue, jaw, and head movements into precise digital actions. A solution was needed to overcome the ergonomic, cost, and precision limitations of current tools, ensuring minimum latency so that interaction with computers and mobile devices would be truly fluid and natural.
Aurax’s Digital Revolution Process
To make the MouthX ecosystem a reality, we designed an architecture based on the advanced integration of hardware and cross-platform software. The main objective was to guarantee total and seamless connectivity for the end user.
Development with React Native, Azure, and .NET.
Beyond establishing a scalable cloud infrastructure, the major technical milestone was the implementation of fully custom Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) protocols.
This connectivity allows for perfect synchronization between the device’s firmware and the applications. Thus, physical movements are translated into digital actions in real-time, adapting to the unique anatomy of each user.
