Energy 4.0: Innovation, resilience and intelligence at your service
Concern about global warming continues. Faced with the threat of a climate emergency, how we consume energy is key to slowing the deterioration of our environment. While citizens are making their own efforts to curb the disaster, energy companies must also update their infrastructures to do so, at a time when there is a proliferation of these near-by power stations. Improving the production, supply or consumption of energy helps to curb the climate emergency. The ENERGY 4.0 project seeks to digitize the power grid and secure it using the most disruptive technologies. This makes the entire energy value chain safer and more accurate.
It also responds to the new challenges of consumption and decarbonization.
– Full project title: Innovation, Resilience and Intelligence at the service of Energy 4.0.
– Project dossier code: AEI-010500-2022b-110
– Project funding agencies: Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade of the Government of Spain, AEI Cluster, Next Generation Program of the European Union and Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
The consortium seeks to digitize electrical substations and transformer stations that need to replace analog and power technologies.
How? with software that drives Industry 4.0. Thus, one of the objectives is to represent critical infrastructures through augmented reality. Also, to create tools that can be inserted into a traffic and event monitoring and management scheme. For this purpose, APIs or standard and interoperable interfaces are used, which help to use advanced big data tools. With these contributions, the objective is to have very useful information on the development of operations and possible failures, which will be used to check the status of the network and, after managing them in a central computer, to act as necessary.

The process
We have used our Evergine graphics engine, which, through new releases over more than a decade, provides the tool with sufficient utilities to easily and accurately represent infrastructures in 3D format. An anomaly predictive algorithm has been created based on historical data.
The solution was based on an artificial intelligence, Big Data and extended reality approach.
By representing energy infrastructures in 3D augmented reality, there is no need for an operator to travel to the site: he can remotely give instructions on improvements or changes for other employees to execute. In addition, the project includes the study of metrics using monitoring tools.
Development with Evergine.
Digitization of the electricity grid to modernize it, guarantee its safety, strengthen its governance and promote decarbonization.
Results
- By digitizing the power grid, the environment is cared for and processes are managed more efficiently and smartly.
- Improved security of the value chain with cloud and data technology.
- Automation of processes, contributing to traceability.
- Live analysis of network status, allowing for lower energy loss.
- Representation of critical infrastructures through AR.
